If you are seriously considering the prospect of buying a Boxer puppy, you need to know how to find a qualified and responsible breeder, who invests all of his or her time and energy into the well-being of Boxers. You must be able to distinguish between true breeders and 'fast buck' breeders.
You do not have to be an expert in order to define a responsible breeder. They devote a lifetime to the cause, and money is but the last thing they care for when selling their pups. They ask prospective buyers about their attitudes to dogs in general and to the breed in particular.
They ask buyers about their homes, families, children and other animals in the house, because these factors define the life of the pup, and breeders are greatly concerned about their pups' life in their new homes and they do their best to make sure they are going to the right hands.
They may ask you multitudes of questions about the breed and, if they find that you are not well informed, they will advise you to attend a special course. A true breeder will never show reluctance in telling you about possible disadvantages of his or her pups or unwillingness to provide registration documents. They never disregard registration. Moreover, you will never hear from them a phrase, like 'Why care about these costly papers?'
True breeders carry out the time-taking job of selective breeding. They mate females to dogs and track changes in the litter. Only those Boxers are admitted to breeding programs, which outdo their parents in health, temper and quality.
