Boxer Dog Breed

The Boxer Dog Breed has won the hearts of millions of people throughout the world. This is a powerful yet joyful and very playful companion. Boxers show fine results in competitive obedience, and their tough and assertive temperament makes them superb guard and service dogs. These dogs are called “Boxers” due to their preference to use their front paws in a funny “boxing” manner. These dogs never exhibit unmotivated aggression and can develop positive attitude to guests, although initially they can be a little suspicious of strangers. They are naturally protective around their loved ones and property. They can ward off intruders in a characteristic Bulldog-like fashion.

The Boxer is a sturdy dog, standing 21-25 inches high at the withers and weighing 55-70 lbs. Boxers have blunt wrinkly muzzles, and undershot jaws. These dogs come in various shades of red, brindle, brown and fawn, and there can be white markings. The coat is short and shiny. The tail is usually docked. Ear-cropping is not mandatory. The nose is large and dark, with wide nostrils. The eyes are dark. The body is tightly muscled, and the front- and the hind legs are straight and powerful. The Boxer Dog Breed is but the most affectionate one compared to other breeds descending from tough fighter dogs of the past.

As Boxers are very active and playful, they appreciate space and comfort. They do okay indoors, but they cannot do without daily outdoor activities, so a sizeable yard is recommended for this dog. Boxers like to walk and run, and they cannot do without other active games. They are excellent companions for well behaved children. Boxer Dog Breed information websites provide detailed knowledge on how to properly care for the dog and what should be done to ease the lives of both dogs and their owners.

The Boxer Dog Breed descended from two old German breeds of dogs: the Brabanter Bullensbeiszer and the Barenbeiszer. These dogs were adept at hunting, livestock driving, and were often used in dog fighting contests and bull baiting shows. The breed standard for the Boxer of today was outlined in 1904. Although Boxers have inherited their fathers’ intimidating countenance, they are not ferocious and are not intended for any bloody sport.

Boxers are prone to several hereditary health disorders, so it is very important to purchase puppies only from reputable breeders. These dogs often suffer from hip dysplasia, hypothyroidism, aortic stenosis, gastric torsion and tumors. Aged dogs run an increased risk of developing cancer. In order to avoid disappointments, it is absolutely imperative that you purchase puppies from reputable breeders, who check their breeding stocks for genetic diseases and keep records on each and every dog. The Boxer Dog Breed, like many other popular breeds, has been obliterated with dollar-oriented breeders, who produce dogs with doubtful backgrounds.
